The hype for Syracuse freshman center Fabricio Melo may have been a bit much coming into the season, but he was able to build off of a couple weeks of good practices with 12 points in their win over St. John's on Thursday. Brandon Triche led the Orange with 22 points, six rebounds and five assists, and three other starters reached double figures. In a reserve role freshman C.J. Fair grabbed seven offensive rebounds.
If Thursday is a sign of what Melo would be able to provide on occasion Syracuse becomes a better and deeper team. He and Fair will be two reserves Jim Boeheim looks to in the coming weeks, and Dion Waiters (8 points) will be an option as well.
